"Birdhouses" is a short project that investigate the relationship between the object and his function. Using archetypal forms, we were able to create objects that communicate their purpose with a strong narrative.
We are currently looking for a new producer for this project. If you
are interested please do not hesitate to contact us!
Concept "i/o"
The stereotypical watch is a very masculine item because of the high amount of technology that it hides. The "i/o" concept emphasizes the watch as a fashion accessory for women. It is a bracelet with an hidden digital clock. Its body features a glossy mirror surface finish that only allows light through from underneath. When not in use it shows just a dot. After touching the dot, the time will show!
Concept "felt"
This watch is made of a single felt strip which is folded and sewn together. It features a digital clock that displays the date and time.
Concept "unnamed"
This watch is made of soft rubber and comes in different colours!
Concept "oOo"
This watch can be wrapped on your wrist. It comes as a long canvas stripe with a ?quadrant? on one end. The "V" cut provides a steady closure.

A new typology of wall mounted light that doesn’t require a permanent mounting.
Airswitch O is an easy to install wall mounted light. Many conventional wall mounted lights requires several holes to be drilled into the wall, and an electric cable that runs inside the wall itself. This often requires an electrician and results in a permanent solution. Only a nail or a screw is required to hang the light from the slit running down the back of the shade. The light uses the AirSwith technology from Mathmos. The wall mounted light creates an amusing effect of a floating object suspended to the wall that can magically be switched on and off and dimmed without touching it. Although it is designed primarily to be used in the bedroom and living room, it also works well in corridors, public spaces and restaurants. Produced in polycarbonate by a single-shot injection moulding process, the shade goes straight from the machine to the box. Surface finishes and the coloured edge are integrated in the moulding process. The cable is coloured to help the user visualize the area on the wall where they would use the airswitch. AirSwitch O has been launched in September at 100% Design as a Mathmos product.

The bedside idol that responds to your gestures.
Airswitch technology uses infrared beams to track hand movement and dim or turn a lamp on or off without direct contact. Thus the Hovito is a small, compact and glowing object: so magical and precious that you don't dare to touch it, like the Hovito tribe's idol in the Indiana Jones movies. It gives out ambient light from the top as a wall wash, and more direct light from its glow. Manufacturing considerations have oriented its design, as polyethylene rotational
molding and bone china slip-casting can both be used: two extremely cheap production methods to tool-up for, appropriate for mass production.

Cooper is a new brand of lager for Coors. This project consisted of createing an identity and packaging for a new brand of beer.
Cooper is a niche brand for environment conscious people. The brand is structured around the idea that ‘less is more’. The goal was to achieve a ‘honest’ visual language without loosing the heritage of the English lager beer. Usually beer’s packaging are overloaded with strong graphics that try to increase the value of the product. With Cooper we wanted the sincerity of the brand to be the identity of the product.
This project has been done with the remarkable participation of Edward Tillbrok!

Kitchens in the past hundred years have gone from the back of the house, to being the centre of family gatherings, to finally becoming a place where to entertain guests with "theatrical cooking" that enhances the visual pleasures of the table experience. There is a great potential to conceive new kitchen utensils that are props to theatrical cooking, and thus targeting an increasing segment of the consumer market. The omelet and pancake flipping pan and the outsized spout for salad dressing are two examples of this kind of kitchen utensils, developed for cooking and serving food with an extra flourish.
‘Acqua’ is a sustainable water bottle. There is a growing number of environment conscious people that are mindful to the product they buy. The design of sustainable products should be both functional and desirable. It Is necessary to achieve a poetic visual language to satisfies the user desire of sustainability. ‘Acqua’ is made with a die-cut process using recycled cardboard laminated with a thin layer of BIOPALST® . This shellac provides a waterproof inner surface and a ‘green’ outer cardboard surface. After been used the bottle completely dissolve under the effect of UV rays. It can be stacked in block of 16 bottles in order to be easily delivered to reseller.
Curious about what your neighbours get up to?
Today, an increasing number of single dwellers use everyday objects not only for their functional purpose, but to construct a personal identity. “The Single Dweller” is a design project that uses a narrative visual language to create a series of objects that criticizes some aspects of people living alone. The first object is a glass that not only serves as a drinking vessel, but also amplifies sounds when put against a wall. The speaker on the bottom is hidden when the glass is in an upright position. The second object is a candle holder that enables the single dweller to have a romantic dinner with his neighbours. It translates vibrations from the wall into a flickering light. The final object is a TV aerial that can be attached to the wall. By turning signals from the neighbours into visual waves on the TV screen, it allows the single person to monitor his neighbour’s activities. The aim of this project is to create a series of object that comments on aspects of human behavour. Therefore the visual language is deliberately exaggerated. This stimulates the viewer to think about the issues behind these simple, potentially real objects.
Robin Lapo Bigio and Olivero Zanon met at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. It was while studying product design they started working together, and have since continued to collaborate, setting up Bigio+Zanon in 2006. While both designers work for different design consultancies developing their own projects, they also work together on many freelance projects . The products of these projects are the result of a series of dialogues between the two designers, reflecting their thoughts and their interactions. Forever questioning and critiquing their own and each others work, they believe that it is their teamwork that enables them to explore deeper into many design issues.
Currently Robin Lapo Bigio and Olivero Zanon work between London, Munich and Milan. Their clients include Habitat, Mathmos, Coors, Renault, MoonBoot, Tecnica, Alain Mikli, Motorola, LG Electronics and IDEO.
